Waste management has been one of the largest problems plaguing Indonesia for the longest time. The amount of waste produced by households and businesses are an order of magnitude more than available waste processing centers (TPA) in Indonesia.
Unmanaged waste has been left piling up on waste processing centers, causing various problems for people living around the area, such as health and safety. The biggest waste processing center in Indonesia, Bantargebang, is also known to be the largest landfill in the country, while in February 2015, a landslide caused by the sheer volume of waste in Leuwigajah TPA took 157 lives.
It is clear that unmanaged waste is an issue which requires a holistic solution.

Indonesia is the largest archipelago country in the world, consisting of 17,504 different islands spread across a span of 1,9 million square kilometers of area. This unique characteristic does not only make Indonesia one of the most beautiful archipelagos, but also one of the most challenging places in the world when it comes to logistics, including waste management.
The Indonesian government targets 100% proper waste processing, where 70% comes from increasing the amount of waste processed, and 30% is by reducing waste from their source. This goal includes 70% reduction of plastic waste by 2025 and zero plastic waste by 2040.
Waste management distribution have not been able to spread evenly across the country and is still focusing mostly on Java Island, therefore a solution which overcomes logistics hurdle is essential.
